HOUSTON -- More than $200,000 was stolen from the Houston Police Federal Credit Union's vault.
Investigators said the doors were locked on Jan. 25 and when the credit union reopened on Jan. 29, the money was gone.
The credit union has more than 25,000 members, which include police officers and their families.
"I like the people. They are very friendly," said Laura Sanmiguel, whose mother was an officer for 30 years.
Until KPRC Local 2 told them, they had no idea the money was stolen over a weekend.
"No, I didn't know that," said retired police Officer Chuck Cueves.
Members and investigators had one thought -- it had to be an inside job.
Ray Wathen with Crime Stoppers said, "Most of the time, that's the first thing you think of unless there's evidence otherwise."
Police said there was no damage or signs of forced entry.
Now the people who service those who serve are under suspicion of committing a first-degree felony and members are wondering if this could happen again.
Officials said no personal accounts were affected by the theft.
Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $25,000 reward.
Anyone with information is asked to call 713-222-TIPS.
