UPDATED: 7:10 am CST February 21, 2008

A baby whose mother allegedly threw him in a hospital trashcan after giving birth to him in a hospital restroom has died, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Doctors at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital took Baby Granados off of life support on Wednesday.

Officials said Genny Granados, 29, went to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital on Feb. 9 complaining of stomach pains. Investigators said she went into a restroom, gave birth to her son, wrapped him in paper towels and tossed him into a trashcan.

"She tells us she cut the umbilical cord and placed the baby in the trashcan when she knew the baby was not breathing," said Estella Olguin with Child Protective Services.

A cleaning crew found the baby and officials were able to revive him.

Granados has two other children, ages 10 and 2. CPS officials said she told them she did not want any more children.

Granados has been jailed on a charge of injury to a child. Officials have not said if the charge would be upgraded because the boy died.
