Car Stolen With Child Inside

An 11-month-old boy is back home safe and sound after an early-morning ride of his life that nearly scared his father to death, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Xavier Williams was inside his father's car when it was stolen on Alsace Street near La Salette Street at about 6:30 a.m.

"I heard the gear shift and I heard the tires I realized someone was stealing my car. I just started freaking out at that point," said Kalvin Williams.

Williams put his son in his car seat, started his car and walked back inside the house. That's when a thief saw his opportunity, police said.

"I just started running down the street and I was screaming, 'My baby, my baby.' By then, the car was way down the street," said Williams.

After 90 minutes, authorities from Ben Taub Hospital called to say they had Xavier.

"So many bad things go through your mind, and when you can hold him again, it's the best feeling," Williams said after holding his son at the hospital.

The thief drove the child to the hospital and brought him inside -- car seat and all.

The crook then left in Williams' 2000 green, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, police said.

Williams admits the nearly two-hour search was the hardest thing he had ever been through. And says he won't ever leave his car running again.

"Yes, yes, yes -- I'll never make that mistake again," Williams said.

Xavier was not injured.

An Amber Alert was issued, but quickly canceled when the baby was dropped off at Ben Taub Hospital.

The family's car and the thief have not been found. The stolen vehicle is a green 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with Texas license plate No. 820 TWT.

Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
