HOUSTON -- Two teenage sisters vowed Tuesday to not return to their mother until she changes her homosexual lifestyle, according to a News2Houston report.
The girls, 17 and 15 years old, said their religious faith played a role in their decision to run away from home, but it wasn't their main reason. They said that they believe their mother's homosexuality is wrong.
"I do think it's a bad influence because I don't want to be gay. I don't want to have to like women," said Nikki Green, 15. "I won't go home unless she changes."
Though too young to legally decide for themselves, the sisters are adamant in their beliefs.
"I don't want her to be alone (with) those lesbians. I don't want her to be talking to girls. I want her to concentrate more on us," said Lakenna Green, 17.
The girls said they can't bear to see their mother with other women and that their faith in God helped them make their decision.
"She doesn't even realize that what she's doing is hurting us. What she sees is that we left. We're rebellious. We didn't obey. Who cares? We're just underage. We don't have a mind of our own," said Nikki Green.
Harris County Children's Protective Services is investigating the case and said the girls don't have the legal right to make their own decision.
"The law says that if you're the age of 17 and under, you really can't leave the home without your parents' permission," said Estella Olguin, with Children's Protective Services.
The Missouri City Police Department is also investigating the case and the girls' mother.
The mother, Kimla Green, has no prior record and no prior dealings with CPS.
She said her daughters have been brainwashed into thinking her lifestyle is wrong.
"For me to sit here by myself trying to fight for my kids to get my kids back, that hurts," Kimla Green said.
Green filed an interference with custody report against the church her daughters attend -- Body of Christ Ministry.
The girls said it has nothing to do with the church. They said they just don't want to live in a homosexual environment.
"I don't think I should have to cause I think it's mental abuse," Nikki Green said.
CPS said they would investigate the case since it's causing distress for the girls, who were sent to a shelter where they will receive counseling.
No charges have been filed in the case. But charges of harboring a runaway are possible, according to police.
