PASADENA, Texas -- A woman died after a tank from a big rig crushed her sport utility vehicle, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Pasadena police said a tractor-trailer with an oversize load went under a railroad overpass that was too low for it in the 800 block of Red Bluff Road near Witter Street shortly before 1 p.m.
A tank fell off and crushed the vehicle when the big rig could not clear the underpass.
"The guy was trying to get under the trestle and apparently it didn't clear, and he lost the vessel and it struck the vehicle. She just happened to be coming under there at the same time. We had the accident investigation team out here, which will do all of their measurements and actually reconstruct the accident scene," said Vance Mitchell with the Pasadena Police Department.
The woman died at the scene. Her identity was not released.
Officials said the big rig driver had received state approval for his route, which is required when transporting that type of cargo.
The driver is not facing any charges.
The accident is under investigation.
