Local Developers Accused Of Bribery

POSTED: Friday, January 25, 2008
UPDATED: 6:18 pm CST January 25, 2008

Two Houston-area developers have been accused of bribing a former city official, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

A grand jury indicted Andrew Schatte, 54, and Michael Surface, 44.

They are accused of conspiring to bribe former top city official Monique McGilbra, then-director of the city's Building Services Department.

A federal indictment said the two men gave McGilbra money, alcohol and trips.

Court papers said the gifts were to convince McGilbra to give contracts for the 911 center and the new fire station downtown to Schatte and Surface's company.

Both men said they did nothing wrong and will prove it in court.
