HOUSTON -- A high school student was arrested after a gun was found in his backpack on Tuesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Fort Bend County Independent School District officials said the principal of Hightower High School got an anonymous tip that a student on a bus headed for the school had a gun.
School district police were notified and found the ninth-grader in the school's commons area.
Police said they found an unloaded pistol inside the 16-year-old's backpack.
The teen was arrested and charged with a felony count of unlawful carrying a weapon where prohibited.
Officials said the student was suspended pending the outcome of their investigations and an expulsion hearing.
The principal sent a letter home to parents to notify them of the incident.
