CONROE, Texas -- The pills are back in stock at a pharmacy that has been targeted by thieves, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.
Village Pharmacy in Conroe was burglarized twice last month. The front door was pried open on Dec. 5. The owner reinforced the door, but it was broken on Dec. 10.
"We found that the narcotics cabinet had been pried open also," pharmacy owner Richard McMillan said. "Basically, everything was taken out of it."
McMillan estimated the thefts cost him about $15,000. They were reported to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the State Board of Pharmacy and his insurance company.
The owner has since spent about $6,000 on security equipment, including cameras and a custom safe.
McMillan said, "Hopefully that will be enough of a deterrent that they'll go to another pharmacy instead of here."
Humble police said three men broke into the Squatty Lyons Health Center on Jan. 10 and stole narcotics. Investigators said the men were in and out in only four minutes.
"They appear to have possibly done this before," Detective David Scott said. "They appear to know exactly what they were looking for."
Police said the thieves also stole patient records during the burglary at the clinic in Humble.
