RICHMOND, Texas -- Two people were arrested in connection with a retired teacher's stabbing death, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Fort Bend County sheriff's deputies said Martha Fields died Thursday, two days after she was stabbed during a home invasion in the gated Weston Lakes subdivision.
Deputies said a Crime Stoppers tip led them to Angela Lara, 24, and Kevin Chase Cypher, 19. Both have been arrested and charged with capital murder. Their bond was set at $1 million each.
Investigators said two people posed as deliverymen to get through the gates. They knocked on Fields' door and told her she had a package, officials said. When Fields said she was not expecting a package, the robbers forced their way inside, tied her up and demanded money, deputies said.
The attackers ransacked the house and stabbed Fields several times, investigators said. The murder weapon was found at the scene, according to authorities.
Officials said Lara and Cypher were friends and had information that there was a large sum of money in a safe inside Fields' home. However, deputies said there was no safe or money in the house.
Fields was reportedly stabbed because the suspects did not find any money, according to authorities.
Officials are searching for a third suspect.
Investigators don't know how the suspects entered the gated community.
Lara also faces unrelated charges of failure to maintain financial responsibility and two counts of expired registration.
