HOUSTON -- A man's body was discovered after neighbors reported hearing something troubling coming from a southwest Houston apartment on Sunday, officials told KPRC Local 2.
Houston police said residents called to have officers check out apartment 181 at the Stonegate Apartments on Bellerive Drive near the Southwest Freeway at about 6 a.m.
Investigators said they believe the tenant was beaten to death.
"Right now we're processing the scene for quite a bit of physical evidence," Sgt. Will Gonzales said. "There's going to be a lot of testing to the evidence that's going on."
Police said one man was taken into custody for questioning and had evidence that could tie him to the killing.
"I was surprised because the man wouldn't talk to nobody," Eduardo Diaz said. "And he said I was the first one to meet him around the apartment."
Detectives have not released the victim's name, but said he was in his 30s or 40s.
