HOUSTON -- Three women have accused a waitress at a southwest Houston restaurant of stealing their credit numbers and going on a spending spree, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.
The women said they had a lunch bill of about $44 at Chuy's Mexican Restaurant on Westheimer Road on Dec. 7, but it ended up costing them more than $2,500.
"The bank said they stole the magnetic stripping from my card," one of the women said. "They took my name off, but used my number."
The numbers were used a few hours after the women paid for the lunch. The women said receipts showed that someone went to Best Buy on Richmond Avenue and spent $1,000 on a computer desk, a 42-inch LCD TV and two video games.
One of the credit cards was declined a few hours later when someone tried to make a $1,400 purchase at a Wal-Mart. The card was later accepted at an expensive lingerie boutique, the women said.
The women said they remembered the waitress seemed nervous and was full of excuses.
"She had the tickets in her hands, she was sorting through them then said she messed up the tickets with our drinks and was gone for long time," said Johanna Marino, one of the alleged victims.
Another one of the women said she has no doubt the waitress was the thief.
"I knew my card had not been out of my sight, except for when we were at that restaurant," said Dianna Huddle.
The women said it has been a frustrating experience and it came at the worst possible time.
"We're trying to buy Christmas gifts and we can't because she cleared out our bank account. Now we have to wait for the investigation to be over," said Allison Baring.
The women said they are now paranoid to use plastic and will use cash in the future.
