Retailers Offer Deals Online

With gas prices and other expenses on the rise this holiday season, many people are clicking from home for their gifts and finding deals online, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

"You save money, gas, and time. People win three times from the point of view of the shopper, so why not do it on the web?" University of Houston, Bauer College of Business Professor, Dr. Betsy Gelb said.

There's an added bonus for those who choose that method.

Consumer expert Leisa Holland-Nelson shares the secret to online shopping success. It might be in your in-box.

"It really is a legitimate e-mail blast with all kinds of coupons for stores and different online purchasing," Holland-Nelson said.

Many people do not realize that savings are just a click away. Coupons in cyberspace make it really convenient -- search, click, print and shop.

"I can find out things and buy with more confidence on the Web, which means I'm more likely to buy," Gelb said.

Although online shopping is convenient, some shoppers said it can be a hassle and prefer the old-fashioned method.

"I can't stand it when I get (the merchandise) in the mail and it's not exactly what I wanted," consumer Laura Batson said.

"I have to go into the store to touch, feel, and handle all of the merchandise," consumer Natasha Jarvis said.

For those who physically go to the stores, retailers try to make sure to offer money saving options.

"I'm not shopping without a coupon. I have a car full. I have tons of them," Holland-Nelson said.

Although staying at home might help save money, it would also mean missing out on the holiday fun.

"You miss the music, the excitement, and watching little kids in strollers," Gelb said.

"I would like to stress that people enjoy giving. Try to remember what this is all about. Share the spirit of the holiday season," Holland-Nelson said.
