Student Injured By Scissors In School Fight

POSTED: Wednesday, December 5, 2007
UPDATED: 4:47 pm CST December 5, 2007

A pair of scissors was used during a fight at an Alvin junior high school on Wednesday that left a student with several injuries, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Officials said that just before 10 a.m., two seventh-grade students got into an altercation in the hallway at Harby Junior High School, located at 1500 Heights Road.

During the scuffle, a 12-year-old boy allegedly used scissors taken from his backpack to injure a 13-year-old, according to school authorities.

The 13-year-old was injured in the head, shoulder and leg, and was treated by the school nurse. Officials said the injuries were minor and not considered life-threatening.

Officials said the 12-year-old surrendered to a school staff member.

School officials sent a letter home to parents, calling it an isolated incident.

"We're still trying to talk to witnesses of the youngsters -- other children -- to see what all took place and get the details, exactly what happened. The student who did the injury, who injured the other child is not in school. He's in custody -- police custody at this time," said Shirley Brother with Alvin ISD.

The student could face assault charges.

An investigation is under way.
