A 14-year-old has been charged in connection with a wrecker driver's death, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.

Deandre Fizer has been charged with capital murder.

Houston police said Fizer and three others confronted Lynn Johnson outside a southeast Houston restaurant in June and demanded money as he tried to get back into his truck.

A witness told police that Johnson shut the door and Fizer opened it and shot Johnson in the stomach.

Johnson's widow said she could not believe her husband is gone.

"He called around 10:30 that night and asked how we were doing," Tracy Johnson said. "He said he was just calling to check on us and that's the last time I talked to him."

Police said that an hour after that call, Johnson was killed.

Harris County Assistant District Attorney Kelli Johnson said Fizer was the shooter and has been certified as an adult.

"No one wants to think a 14-year-old could commit such a heinous crime, but unfortunately, 14-year-olds have to be accountable for the crimes they commit," she said.

Johnson said that if Fizer is convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison without parole. He is not eligible for the death penalty due to his age.

Tracy Johnson said her 4-year-old daughter, Chandler, always asks for her daddy.

"There are times when she wonders," she said. "Yesterday she told my mom that her dad was still at work."

Tracy Johnson said she is not looking forward to the holidays because it will be a tough time for her family.

"He took away everything. Lynn was our everything."

Fizer's family said they believe he is innocent. His aunt said she was with Fizer the night of the shooting and they have hired an attorney.
