HOUSTON -- There is a simple question that has haunted a Houston woman for four years.
"She wanted to know for a long time, she wanted to know why her?" said her father. "Why did he pick me?"
His daughter was abducted from a Galleria parking garage, then raped by Juan Solis four years ago. She was leaving work at a business in the Galleria. She was 19 years old.
Solis is serving an 80-year prison sentence.
"There's just inner demons that she's still working on getting rid of and it will be probably a life process for her," said her father.
KPRC Local 2 is not identifying her father in order to protect the victim's identity.
On Thursday, a jury awarded her more than $3.6 million. It said The Galleria could have done more to warn and protect her.
Joe Garnett, an attorney for I.P.C. International, the security company hired by The Galleria, said, "The Galleria is a very safe place and it's unfortunate that this happened and it wasn't the fault of the security company."
The security company claimed it gave employees safety tips and offered to escort women to their cars.
The security company and The Galleria's owners could appeal the court's ruling.
