POSTED: Wednesday, October 31, 2007
UPDATED: 12:23 pm CDT October 31, 2007

Part of a freeway was closed to traffic when a truck flipped and spilled its load near downtown Houston, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said the truck flipped over in the northbound lanes of the North Freeway near Hogan Street at about 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver told detectives that the wreck happened when he tried to avoid a collision with another car.

The truck's load of steel spilled across all of the lanes. Traffic had to be diverted while crews cleaned up the mess.
