Missing Radioactive Gauge Shuts Down Highway

POSTED: Thursday, October 18, 2007
UPDATED: 6:35 pm CDT October 18, 2007

An east Houston highway was shut down on Thursday afternoon because of a missing radioactive gauge, KPRC Local 2 reported.

All westbound lanes of Highway 225 between Preston and Beltway 8 were closed shortly after 5 p.m. when a truck owned by the PSI company lost a gauge that contained two components that are radioactive, officials said.

One of the components was found, but the lanes were closed until the other was located.

The Pasadena Fire Department and the hazardous materials unit searched along Highway 225 for the missing component.

Traffic was backed up for miles.
