HOUSTON -- Texas Southern University students were allowed to move back into their dorms Sunday after they were evacuated because of a bat invasion, officials told KPRC Local 2.
About 200 students were moved out of Lanier Hall on Sept. 16 and into a hotel while crews eradicated the bats.
Some students said they did not notice any differences in the building, but university officials said they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to fix the problem.
"They placed screens around the crevices and the entry and exit points the bats were using," spokesman Terrance Jackson said. "The screen basically kept bats from coming in, but allowed them to leave."
Jackson said the building was sanitized, furniture was cleaned and some ceiling tiles were replaced.
"I hope they don't come back," freshman Heldon Bourne said.
Bourne said he was worried that having to move out and back in will take a toll on his grades.
"I'm just worried about my classes because I didn't get any work done over the weekend because we had to move," Bourne said.
Students shot video of the bats flying through the halls and posted it on YouTube.
The students were screened for possible exposure to rabies. Twelve students received shots.
None of the bats have tested positive for rabies, officials said.
