Police: Attackers Ask Neighbor To Call 911 For Victim

POSTED: Monday, October 1, 2007

Two teens beat another teen unconscious and asked a neighbor to call 911 for help, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Dickinson police said Daniel Ray Barr, 18, and a 16-year-old confronted an 18-year-old after he allegedly took $15 from a girl's purse at a party at a home in the 4400 block of 31st Street early Sunday.

Barr and the 16-year-old hit and kicked the 18-year-old, police said. The 18-year-old was knocked unconscious and Barr and the 16-year-old continued to attack him, investigators said.

Detectives said the victim was carried outside and placed in the driveway. The attackers then went next door and asked a neighbor to call 911, officials said.

Police arrived and found the victim in the driveway. Investigators said they went inside and found an area where there was a large amount of blood, which someone tried to clean up before they arrived.

The victim was transported by helicopter to the University of Texas Medical Branch Hospital in Galveston. He was last listed in critical condition.

Investigators said Barr and the 16-year-old were arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which is punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine if convicted.

Three 16-year-old girls were also questioned about the attack.
