The family of a murdered girl told her killer that he destroyed their lives, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

Ashton Glover, 16, was shot to death in July 2006.

Matthew McCombs, 19, agreed to a plea deal on Friday. He admitted to pulling the trigger.

Glover's parents read victim impact statements in court on Tuesday. Mother Sue Smith demanded that McCombs look her in the eye.

"I never knew I could hate someone so much," she said. "I lose sleep at night wondering how someone could do such a horrible thing. Why my baby?"

"He did it for absolutely no reason," said Ira Chenkin, McCombs' attorney. "We had him shrunk by a number of psychiatrists and he was mentally competent."

"Because of you, I will never see my daughter graduate, never walk her down the aisle and never see her become a mother," father Terry Glover said. "I don't know if I can ever forgive you."

Smith also took time to point out some of her daughter's qualities. She reminded McCombs that thousands of people attended her funeral and hundreds took part in the search for her. A scholarship has been set up at Texas A&M University in her honor and a group of her friends helped build a church in Uganda in her memory.

McCombs was an ROTC student who talked about joining the military when he graduated from high school.

Smith asked McCombs why he did not just join the military and shoot someone during the war rather than killing her daughter.

McCombs was given a chance to respond, but declined.

McCombs was sentenced to 50 years in prison and will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years. Glover's parents approved of the deal but said they plan to fight against his release in the future.

Sean Brown, McCombs' 19-year-old friend, has also been charged with murder.

Brown and McCombs were arrested in Ontario, Canada, after fleeing from Sugar Land.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Milton Wright said the teens gave "morbid curiosity" as their motive for the slaying.

Glover met McCombs for coffee at the It's A Grind coffee shop on Sweetwater Boulevard in Sugar Land on the night of her death. She was found dead by a construction crew laying utility lines off Oil Field Road and Thompson's Ferry Road on July 10.

Wright said Glover was shot in the head on July 7 in the field where she was found. After the teens killed Glover, they went to breakfast before returning to bury her, officials said.

All three teenagers attended Clements High School in Sugar Land.
