Police: Couple Charged In Massive ID Theft Case

POSTED: Sunday, September 9, 2007

Police said they will need a moving truck to seize a house full of expensive items that were bought with stolen identities, officials told KPRC Local 2 Saturday.

Investigators charged Sharif Reid, 32, and Nandasharie Shivmangal, 30, with fraudulent use of identifying information, which is a first-degree felony.

They are both being held on $250,000 bond each.

Police said the couple used 50 fraudulent credit cards and fake IDs to buy things such as big screen televisions, pricey clothes and jewelry worth several hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Neighbors said they were suspicious.

"It just seemed really odd for someone to have a really large house and not have any furniture and then all of a sudden have lots of furniture and lots of things. And they never seemed to work," Su Curley said.

The couple's four children are staying with neighbors until other arrangements can be made.
