POSTED: Monday, August 27, 2007

A security guard died after he was shot during a robbery in southwest Houston, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Houston police said the guard was shot in the leg at a business in the 6500 block of West Bellfort Street at about 5 a.m. Sunday.

The gunmen entered the business, assaulted the guard and shot him before an employee was robbed at gunpoint, officials said.

The guard was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died. His identity was not released.

Police said the gunmen got away with a large amount of cash. They were described as black and in their early 20s.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Houston Police Department Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
