Fatal Wreck Causes Power Outage

POSTED: Thursday, August 9, 2007
UPDATED: 7:28 am CDT August 9, 2007

A driver was killed and three people were injured in a wreck that caused a power outage in part of northeast Harris County, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said Enrique Estebane Jr. was speeding when he ran a red light on the Eastex Freeway feeder road at Lauder Road at about 7:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Estebane's pickup truck slammed into sport utility vehicle before his truck rolled over and hit a power pole.

Estebane died at the scene. His two passengers were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

A woman and 3-year-old child were inside the SUV, investigators said. The woman suffered minor injuries and the child was not injured. The child was strapped into a safety seat, investigators said.

Investigators said they found beer bottles inside Estebane's truck. Some of the bottles were closed, but many were open, detectives said.

Several residents, businesses and traffic signals lost power when the truck hit the pole. It took crews about nine hours to restore power.
