Man Shot By Police Accused Of Burglary While Out On Bond

POSTED: Wednesday, August 8, 2007

A man accused of burglarizing a vehicle and running over two police officers has been accused of burglarizing vehicles while out on bond, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Edward Thomas, 21, allegedly broke into a car parked at a Hobby Lobby store in the 20300 block of the Eastex Freeway on Tuesday.

Humble police said Thomas stole two purses and used a credit card belonging to one of the victims.

A witness called police and Officer Tony Taylor followed Thomas to a home just outside of the city limits. He was going to visit his girlfriend, police said.

"He asked me If if knew him," Taylor said. "I responded no, which I didn't recognize him at the time. He identified himself as the person who was shot by police officers in January."

Houston police said two of their officers, who were dressed in plain clothes, spotted Thomas in their unmarked car in the parking lot of the Asian City restaurant in the 20200 block of the Eastex Freeway near Townsen Boulevard on Jan. 26.

The officers ordered Thomas get out of the car and he complied. He got into another vehicle and ran over both officers, officials said.

Investigators said the officers fired several shots at Thomas, wounding him in the head, shoulder and side.

Rammed 2 hpd officers with a car after the officers caught him burglarizing their unmarked car in the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant.

Humble police said Thomas was released from the hospital about a month ago and was out on a $60,000 bond.

Thomas will be transferred to the Harris County Jail. Investigators said he will face several charges, including credit card fraud.

Court records show Thomas has previously been charged with drug possession, burglary and assault of a public servant.
