Search Under Way For Girl, 5

Searchers joined the effort to find a 5-year-old girl kidnapped two months ago, police say, by her non-custodial father, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

Alondra Diaz Garcia was last seen on June 1. Police and relatives said they believe she was abducted by her father, Reynaldo Diaz Barragan, 38.

He picked his daughter up at a McDonald's on Gessner Road at Bissonnet Street for a court-approved weekend visit, officials said, and Alondra has not been seen since.

"My fear is -- he's a very impulsive guy. In a moment of desperation, he might hurt my baby," Alondra's mother said.

Texas EquuSearch said it was recently notified of the case. They spent two days searching off Highway 59 in Kendleton in Fort Bend County, where officials said Barragan's family owns rural property.

Normally, Texas EquuSearch does not get involved with parental abductions, but fears this case is different.

"There's historical issues with this gentleman that lead us to believe that he's capable of harming in a very vicious way. And there was some information that came from law enforcement in the beginning that led us to believe that that could be the case," said Cindy Wisdom with Texas EquuSearch.

Alondra's relatives said he once claimed he was not her father, resented paying child support, beat her mother and verbally abused her.

Barragan has been charged with interfering with child custody. His criminal record includes violating a protective order, criminal mischief and an assault charge that was dropped.

Alondra is 3 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 38 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion. She was last seen wearing denim pants and an orange-and-yellow striped T-shirt.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to contact Houston police.
