HPD: Spanish-Speaking Men Kidnapped, Robbed

POSTED: Wednesday, July 25, 2007
UPDATED: 6:12 pm CDT July 25, 2007

At least seven men allegedly kidnapped and robbed several Spanish-speaking men, officials told KPRC Local 2 Wednesday.

Houston police said that four men approached a man waiting at a bus stop on Gessner Road near the Katy Freeway on July 3. The men forced the man into their truck at gunpoint, police said.

The victim told investigators that there was another victim in the truck. They were taken to a home in the 8000 block of John Street, police said.

Detectives told them that one of the victims said more victims were already at the home and being held captive by three other men.

The men demanded the victims give them their relatives' phone numbers and money for their release, officials said.

Investigators said most of the men were released on July 6 and were told not to contact the police.

One victim who was not released convinced the three men to take him to a restaurant at which he was employed to pick up a paycheck, officials said.

Police said the victim told his manager what had happened. The manager contacted police.

Officers went to the restaurant and arrested the three men without incident, police said.

Jose Alberto Martinez, 19, Ricardo Patino, 24, and Elionay Pena, 47, have been charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. All three men are in the Harris County with no bond.

Detectives said the four men who kidnapped the victims have not been taken into custody. Officials have not released the men's names or descriptions.

Investigators said they believe there may be more victims who are afraid to file reports.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Houston Police Department Robbery Division Latino Squad at 713-308-0700.
