HOUSTON -- A teenager was trapped inside a restroom at a popular entertainment complex on Wednesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Shelby Moore, 16, said he went to the
Marq*E Center to see a movie with some friends. He went to a restroom and discovered the door was jammed when he tried to leave.
Friends asked security guards for help, but they were not able to get Moore out.
Aaron Miller, 11, recorded the rescue attempt with a cellular phone.
"He's saying, 'Let me out! Help! Help!,'" Aaron said. "They're (the security guards) just laughing. I was really mad."
Moore was stuck inside the restroom for about an hour. He hatched his own escape plan that ended with a trip to the hospital.
"I was jerking it (the door) and jerking it," Moore said. "I couldn't get out. They (the security guards) wouldn’t kick it. I told them to kick it in, I need to get out of here before I pass out. They just didn't do anything. The whole door is broken now. Now they get it open whenever I fall through the roof."
Moore said he climbed through the ceiling, broke through Sheetrock and ended up falling into the property management office.
Security guards called paramedics to treat Moore. He was transported to a nearby hospital to get five stitches in his hand.
"We tried everything we could," one security guard said. "We had HPD over here. We tried everything. We tried to help the guy, but he just got out through the ceiling, jumped over to the management office and that's how he got down."
Moore said he is claustrophobic and he panicked in the one-stall restroom.
The group did not get to see the movie they planned to watch.
