Driveway Robberies Worry Residents

POSTED: Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Residents of the Afton Oaks subdivision said they are worried about their safety after two driveway robberies in the area, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

One resident said he was robbed after getting home from the airport at about midnight Saturday.

"We had a driver and he was taking the bags out of the trunk," said the victim, who requested not to be identified. "I looked up and two men were racing toward us."

He said his life flashed before his eyes during the robbery, which lasted less than a minute.

"Waving guns in our face, yelling at us to give them our money or they'd kill us," he said.

An e-mail sent to Afton Oaks neighbors warned about another driveway robbery on Saturday.

A couple reported they were attacked in their driveway.

"As a neighborhood, what we have to be concerned with is how to make our area less attractive, less safe for them and safer for us," the victim said.

Neighbors said they are working on a plan to increase safety. One of the options they are considering is nightly patrols.
