Dad Charged In Twins' Deaths Faces Judge

POSTED: Monday, July 9, 2007
UPDATED: 4:55 pm CDT July 9, 2007

A father charged in connection with the deaths of his 7-year-old twin sons appeared before a judge on Monday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said Oscar Castro, 29, was drunk when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer parked on the side of the 15800 block of Beaumont Highway late Saturday.

Five children were inside the pickup truck. Twins Oscar and Haisel Castro were killed, detectives said.

The three other children, including a second set of twin boys, were injured. They were treated at a nearby hospital and later released.

Castro suffered minor injuries.

Investigators said Castro's blood-alcohol level was .22. He has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter. A judge ordered that he be held without bond.

Castro is expected to make his second court appearance on Tuesday.

A memorial for the boys has been set up outside the family's home.

"He's probably feeling so bad right now because he loved them," babysitter Angelina Guadarrama said. "I know he did."
