Woman Pleads Not Guilty In High-Rise Fire

POSTED: Thursday, July 5, 2007

A woman who police said confessed to starting a fatal high-rise office building fire pleaded not guilty in a downtown Houston courtroom on Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Misty Weaver, 33, is charged with three counts of murder and one count of arson.

On March 28, investigators said she torched a medical office at 9373 North Loop East, killing three people: Jeanette Hargrove, Shana Ellis and Marvin Wells Sr.

Police said she set fire to a cardboard box to cover up a paperwork mistake.

Authorities said Weaver told them she had not pulled together all the necessary paperwork for an audit with a March 29 deadline.

More than 100 Houston firefighters battled the four-alarm blaze for hours.
