Freeway Closes After Debris Damages Cars

POSTED: Wednesday, June 27, 2007
UPDATED: 7:39 am CDT June 27, 2007

Part of a major freeway was closed during the Wednesday morning commute after large pieces of debris damaged several cars, KPRC Local 2 reported.

All four southbound lanes of the West Loop at Woodway Drive were shut down at about 4 a.m.

The ramps from the Katy Freeway to the West Loop southbound were also shut down as traffic backed up for miles. Traffic on the West Loop was diverted to the feeder road.

Houston police said it appeared that a truck spilled a load of dirt, gravel, rocks and large chunks of concrete. The truck did not stop.

At least eight cars were damaged before the roadway was closed. Many of the cars had flattened tires.

The road reopened shortly after 7:30 a.m.
