Rain Storms Into Houston Area

HOUSTON -- Gray clouds and rain are expected to fill the sky over Houston most of the week, KPRC Local 2 reported.

"In the next seven days, there's really no sign of drying out," KPRC Local 2 meteorologist Anthony Yanez said.The storms moved into the area late Sunday. Monday's afternoon commute is expected to be slick."What we're going to see today is those showers really hitting a peak at 3 p.m," Yanez said. "What we have is just an abundant amount of moisture here in the Gulf of Mexico. We have this disturbance that's acting as a low-pressure system and what it's doing is lifting all this rich tropical moisture as it makes it onto land. It's lifting it, it's turning it into rain and it's dumping it right on top of us."A half-inch to an inch of rain is likely in most areas across the city. Yanez said flooding is unlikely, but some isolated areas could see 2 to 4 inches."As long as it's moving to the north at least more than 10 mph, we're not going to see anything more than some isolated street and feeder road flooding, Yanez said.Some roads in and around Bear Creek Park in northwest Houston were closed because of high water.The threat of high water on roadways and in yards could come later in the week."The problem potentially will be the middle part of the week, once we head towards Wednesday, Thursday," Yanez said. "If we get some heavy downpours then, there's not going to be much of a storm motion, and so we could see flooding at that time."There is an 80 percent chance of rain on Tuesday, a 60 percent chance of showers on Wednesday and Thursday and a 40 percent chance Friday, Saturday and Sunday.The wet weather put more than a damper on landscaper Salvatore Ballarte's day. He said storms cause him to lose money."We're not working because it's raining," Ballarte said. "We'll lose about maybe $400 to $500 a day." More Weather:
