HOUSTON -- Two Cuban soccer players are missing and may have defected to the United States, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.
Cuban national team officials said Osvaldo Alonso and Lester More have not been seen since they went shopping at The Galleria on Tuesday.
The team was in Houston to play in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup at Reliant Stadium on Wednesday.
Coach Raul Gonzalez said he believes the players defected and their actions affected their 5-0 loss to Honduras.
"Those players are irresponsible, they lack aptitude, lack personality and lack commitment," Gonzalez said in Spanish.
In 2005, a Cuban soccer player defected in Seattle while in town for a game.
