POSTED: Tuesday, May 29, 2007
UPDATED: 11:00 am CDT May 29, 2007

A teenager died on a woman's doorstep after he was shot in northwest Houston on Monday, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Witnesses told Houston police that they heard several shots and screams at an apartment complex on Grow Lane near Dow Road at about 9:30 p.m.

Derek Prudhomme, 18, collapsed on a woman's doorstep, police said. She called 911 and stayed with him until paramedics arrived.

Prudhomme died at the scene.

Detectives said they do not know much about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

"We do not have a motive or suspects at this time," Detective Mark Newcomb said. "We're trying to locate additional witnesses who might have seen what happened."

Police said they do not believe robbery was the motive for the killing.

Investigators said Prudhomme was a Louisiana native and had been in Houston for about three weeks.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Houston Police Department Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
