HPD: 2 Sexual Predators Terrorizing Women, Girls
List Of Attacks
Houston police said a 19-year-old man has been charged with burglary with intent to commit sexual assault.Police said the man tried to assault a woman in her home in January."He pushed me and I fell to the table. My back -- it hurt so bad. I picked myself up and called the police. That's when he left," said the victim, who did not want to be identified. The victim spotted the man walking in front her home on Sunday and called police. The suspect, whose identity was not released, was taken into custody on outstanding warrants, officials said.Investigators said they believe he is responsible for two of 14 reported attacks. He matches a composite sketch that was released last week, officials said.Police said they believe another man with the same physical description is terrorizing the area."We still have another sexual predator out there that is doing similar burglaries with intent to commit a sexual assault," Houston police Lt. Bill Stanley said. "He's pretty much a coward. He's not afraid of young children and sleeping women, but as soon as there's a loud noise or a male comes out, he runs scared into the night."Both men have only spoken Spanish to their victims and all of the victims have been Hispanic, officials said.Officials said women and girls in the area have been preyed on for the past several weeks. Most of the victims, ages 4 to 64, reported waking up and finding a strange man in their beds.Police said both predators have the same description. They are Hispanic and are believed to be in their early 20s. They are 5 feet 5 inches to 6 feet tall, weigh 145 to 165 pounds with a thin build and have short black hair.Residents and community leaders handed out fliers in the area Thursday afternoon to alert others about the incidents.Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. A $2,000 reward is being offered in the case.Police said they do not believe an incident reported at a home on Thursday morning was related.A woman reported that a man touched her face while she slept with her 5-year-old daughter in their home on Neyland Street.Detectives said they believe the man was burglarizing her home and accidentally touched her. He ransacked a bedroom, stole jewelry and disconnected the telephone before leaving, police said.
