Family Asks For Help Finding Teen's Killers

POSTED: Tuesday, May 8, 2007

A family asked the public for help to find a teen's killers, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

Houston police said Cornisha McCowan, 13, was shot twice in the chest while inside a car in the parking lot of a skating rink in the 13400 block of South Main Street near Hillcroft Street at about 12:35 a.m. on April 14.

Investigators said Cornisha, her 15-year-old friend, and her friend's brother-in-law, were inside the vehicle when another vehicle approached and someone fired half a dozen shots into the car.

Investigators said two groups had a fight earlier and one of the groups may have thought Cornisha's car belonged to their rivals.

Cornisha was not associated with either of the groups, police said.

The only description of the shooter is a male wearing a bright yellow bandana tied around his neck.

Relatives said Cornisha was a straight-A student who never got into trouble.

"She was humble," mother Brenda McCowan said. "She would get into her quiet mode and loved to read, too."

Cornisha was a student at Pershing Middle School.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Houston Police Department Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
