Students' Homes Searched In School Fire Investigation

The Fort Bend fire marshal determined that the three-alarm fire that broke out at Needville High School on Monday was intentional.Investigators searched the homes of two current students and one former student. Detectives looked for various items including notes that mentioned the fire and clothing that might contain evidence.The fire destroyed the school's administrative area where completed TAKS tests were stored. School officials said some students will be required to retake the tests.Detectives said they believe students were responsible for the inferno. Detectives said someone may have set the fire because of bad grades or failing TAKS scores.The blaze also damaged about 20 percent of the school's classrooms, the science wing, library and cafeteria.High school students will go back to class on Monday. Students received their new class schedules on Thursday.A $5,000 reward was offered for information about the fire.
