Father Arrested After Holding Wife, Baby Hostage

POSTED: Thursday, April 19, 2007

A father was arrested after he held his wife and newborn son hostage at their southwest Houston apartment complex, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Houston police said the man was drinking at The Scottwood Apartments on Edgemoor Drive near Alder Drive at about 9:30 p.m.

The man picked up a knife and threatened to kill his wife and 3-week-old son, police said.

Officers tried to get the man to open the door to the apartment, but he refused. SWAT officers were called in to negotiate with the man.

Police said the wife tried to leave the apartment several times, but the man blocked the door.

SWAT officers rushed into the apartment when the wife was able to unlock the door several hours after the ordeal began.

The man was subdued with beanbag and Taser guns, police said.

Police arrested the man and he was charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault.

The wife and baby were transported to a hospital for evaluation.
