ANGLETON, Texas -

National Adoption Day is a celebration for children being adopted and an effort which brings about awareness of the thousands of children in foster care waiting to be adopted by loving families.

It falls on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, but in Brazoria County the love that several new parents have could not wait.

Geheard Jurek, the father of a 9-year-old boy named Christopher, said he wouldn't trade it for any money in the world. It's hard for him to explain, but said "It's been great."

Jurek's wife, Judy, explained that a neurologist told her that Christopher would have died within a couple of months if it weren't for their adoption. Doctors also told her that her special needs son wouldn't be able to lift his head. But, today he's able to walk around in the courtroom.

"After lots of therapy, good nutrition and lots of love, he's walking," Judy Jurek said.

Judge Jeremy Warren signed the adoption papers for Christopher and 11 other children, congratulating all families involved in adoptions today.

Norma Torres, a mother of two new boys said that she and her husband, Catarino, "knew from day one it was what they were supposed to do."

The boys were brought to tears as new family members gathered to hug them.

The oldest boy, Koby Torres, said, "I have a great mom and dad. They love everybody."
