UPDATED: 5:41 pm CDT March 21, 2007

A man tried to abduct a northeast Houston student as she walked to school on Wednesday morning, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Officials said that a Hispanic man driving a blue four-door Dodge pickup truck attempted to abduct a ninth-grade girl from a street corner on Antoine and Libby at 8:15 a.m. as the girl was on her way to Scarborough High School.

She was able to escape and was not harmed.

Scarborough Principal Moses Diaz contacted parents about the incident using the Houston School District's new automatic phone messaging system.

"The man was between the ages of 25 to 30 years, 5 feet 6 inches tall with short black spiked hair with excessive acne on his face. He was wearing a royal blue button-up shirt and blue jeans," Diaz said.

Extra patrols have been added in the area.
