HOUSTON -- A SWAT scene in the Montrose area ended Monday morning after a six-hour standoff, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Police said it started shortly before midnight when a shooting was reported in the 900 block of West Gray.
Investigators said a woman was shot in the face on Montrose and Kipling and drove to her home on West Gray, where she called 911.
She told authorities the shooting was an accident.
When police arrived at the scene, which was a hair salon, Anthony Kroger, 28, was inside armed with weapons, officials said.
"As police cleared the second level, they were able to recover two weapons -- one handgun and one long-barrel gun. I don't know if it was a rifle or a shotgun. I suspect it was a rifle because they also recovered two .23 rounds and they also have recovered so far a pretty large amount of marijuana," said Capt. Duane Ready with the Houston Police Department.
SWAT negotiators tried to coax Kroger out of the building for more than six hours, police said. He surrendered peacefully shortly after 6 a.m.
The victim is hospitalized, but her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Kroger faces several charges, including aggravated assault, weapons violations and drug charges.
A motive for the shooting is not yet known.
