HOUSTON -- A teenager had keys to 23 homes when he allegedly burglarized a north Harris County home, officials told KPRC Local 2.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said they caught the 14-year-old boy in a garage after a silent alarm went off at a home in the 7100 block of Fox Vista Lane at about 2 a.m. Friday.
Investigators said the teen had the keys to 23 homes in the Foxwood subdivision and $14 in cash that was possibly stolen from the home.
The teen got the keys, which had address tags attached, from a model home in the area, officials said.
Detectives said they believe the teen may have had plans to use the keys to the other homes.
"He would have probably tried to burglarize or attempted to burglarize other residents," Capt. Steve Whitton said. "The worst scenario is that he would have entered a residence where somebody was home and somebody could have been injured or killed."
Deputies said the teen lives in the neighborhood and likely picked the house at random.
The teen has been charged with burglary of a building and burglary of a habitation. Both charges are felonies.
