HCSO: Drugs Found At Fatal Home Invasion

POSTED: Thursday, March 15, 2007
UPDATED: 8:17 am CDT March 15, 2007

Drugs likely motivated a home invasion that led to the attacker's death, officials told KPRC Local 2 Wednesday.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said a home was broken into in the 6700 block of Dusty Dawn Drive near Coral Ridge Road at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Ovidio Reyes, his wife and their and two children were inside the home at the time of the home invasion, detectives said.

Reyes exchanged gunfire with the man who broke into the home, deputies said. The attacker was fatally wounded.

Detectives discovered that there were more than 10 pounds of marijuana inside the home. Deputies believe the marijuana was the motive for the home invasion.

Investigators said there may have been other people involved in the burglary who fled before deputies arrived.

The shooting case will be referred to the Harris County grand jury without charges.

No drug charges have been filed yet.
