Internet Fraud Suspect Arrested In Katy
Man's Bond Set At $1 Million
Raj Trivedi was taken into custody at a house in Katy by San
Diego County detectives on a high-tech crime task force.
The 25-year-old allegedly advertised electronic goods on Internet auction house sites and accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from bidders around the world without delivering the products. That's according to the San Diego County District Attorney's office.
The District Attorney's office says Trivedi has been charged with 25 counts of grand theft, fraud, mock auctions and accessing a computer to commit fraud. Extradition proceedings are under way.
Investigators said that Trivedi recently moved to the Katy area from San Diego, California in September.
Officials claim there have been over 200 victims from Texas, as well as the
East and West Coast with a combined estimated loss of over $300,000.00.
Trivedi was at his home at the time a search warrant was conducted.
After searching his home, Detectives recovered well over $100,00.00 in property relating to his Internet scam operation.
Trivedi was taken into custody and arrested on a California warrant for felony theft and fraud.
Felony charges are forthcoming by the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office and possibly Harris County.
Trivedi currently remains in custody in the Fort Bend County Jail where he is being held on a $1 million bond and is awaiting extradition to California.Copyright 2003 by Click2Houston.com.
