HOUSTON -- A bar patron was shot and killed after he harassed and assaulted a waitress, officials told KPRC Local 2.
Houston police said the man, believed to be in his 20s, was shot in the parking lot of Lexey's Place Sports Bar on Manor Way near Old Humble Road at about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Witnesses told police that the man was belligerent and was asked to leave the bar.
"He resisted and didn't wish to do so," Capt. Milton Martin said. "At one point, according to witnesses, (he) struck the female employee in the face. The male, who is alleged to be the shooter, came to her defense and there was a fight."
The man who defended the woman ran to his pickup truck and locked the doors, police said.
The man who was asked to leave followed the other man out to the parking lot and then witnesses heard a gunshot.
"The male in the vehicle fired one shot from a handgun that he had inside the vehicle, striking the deceased party in the neck," Martin said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released pending notification of family members.
Officials have not said if the shooter will face any charges.
