Man Wanted In Thwarted Post Office Attack

POSTED: Thursday, November 9, 2006
UPDATED: 2:45 pm CST November 9, 2006

A man is wanted in connection with a thwarted attack on a postal worker, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

U.S. Postal Service Inspectors said a man assaulted an employee at the U.S. Post Office in the 7500 block of Almeda Road in southwest Houston at about 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 10.

Officials said a black man in his mid-20s approached a supervisor at the back dock and asked to speak to him about an incident at another postal location.

"There was some postal terminology that was used that would lead us to believe that this person had some knowledge of postal systems, and that's why we're asking anyone with knowledge about this particular crime to come forward," said Vanessa Kimbrough, a U.S. postal inspector.

The supervisor noticed the man beginning to draw a gun from his pants pocket as the two walked to an adjacent area, officials said.

Investigators said the supervisor disarmed the man by grabbing his right hand, causing the gun to fall to the floor.

The postal worker was not injured.

The man fled the scene in a newer model black Dodge Durango driven by an unidentified black or Hispanic man.

Investigators released a composite sketch of the man.

Postal inspectors are not sure of the motive.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
