Local Club Target Of Undercover Sting Operation

Over 50 Patrons, Employees Taken Into Custody

Late Saturday night undercover police busted a downtown nightclub and arrested several patrons, authorities said.

Club Eden, located at the 3100 block of San Jacinto and Elgin, was the target of the operation done by the Houston Police Department, which uncovered the sales of narcotics as well as serving alcohol without a valid liquor license, police said.

Police had been working undercover at the club for about one month gathering information. Saturday night, HPD had enough manpower to conduct a sting operation that netted at least 50 people now in custody, including four bartenders.

Several of the patrons were taken into custody on charges of public intoxication, possessing narcotics -- mostly cocaine that was still on their faces, said the police captain -- and other various charges.

The undercover operation began after the police department received many phone calls from area residents.
