HOUSTON -

Ten people were injured in an accident involving a METRORail train Tuesday.

METRO officials said a vehicle and a light-rail train crashed at 9:45 a.m. on Fannin at Cambridge near the Texas Medical Center.

Investigators said an ambulance was behind the vehicle, so the driver tried to move out of the ambulance's way. She drove onto the light-rail tracks and then collided with the oncoming train, according to officials.

Nine people on board the train and the vehicle's driver said they were injured. The injuries were described as non-life-threatening. The driver, who a witness said is eight months pregnant, was taken to Methodist Hospital. The extent of the injuries was not released.

The light rail system operated on a single track between Memorial Hermann Hospital and Bellows until the scene was cleared.

The crash is under investigation.
