Houston police are looking for a driver who was involved in a deadly hit and run accident on the Southwest Freeway.
Police said around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, a pedestrian had already crossed the southbound lanes of the freeway near Westpark Drive but was hit by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the northbound lanes.
“He made it to the northbound lanes of traffic when he was struck by a dark colored vehicle. The vehicle continued on and did not stop,” said Sergeant C.B. Nickerson with the Houston Police Department's vehicular crimes division.
The victim, described as being in his 30's, died at the scene.
According to police, the vehicle that hit the man is described as a dark gray 2006-2009 Mercedes. They believe it has damage to its front end as a result of the accident.
A portion of the Southwest Freeway and northbound frontage road was closed for four hours Sunday morning while police conducted their investigation.
While police had the area blocked off, two other drivers were arrested for driving while intoxicated.
“They were not part of the accident itself, but we had an accident that was the result of an intoxicated driver that did strike another vehicle. Also, we had an intoxicated driver that actually drove into the crime scene area and he was arrested,” said Nickerson.
Nickerson said no one was injured as result of those incidents.
