HOUSTON -

Houston police are searching for the person who broke into a southwest Houston home and shot a man to death.

It all happened around 5 a.m. Sunday in the 4700 block of Beechaven. Houston police responded to reports of a man shot inside of his home.

"They entered the bedroom of the complainant, who is Hispanic male in his 20s. He was shot several times," said HPD Homicide Sgt. Thomas Biggs

The man was transported to the hospital but was later pronounced dead. Local 2 has learned the victim lives with his grandparents, who woke up to the sound of gun shots and feared for their lives.

"When the grandparents responded the pistol was pointed at them as well. Suspect or suspects then fled the scene through the same place they entered," said Sgt. Thomas.

Investigators collected evidence on a nearby vehicle. They believe the suspect may have touched a nearby car.

In the meantime, residents said they're frightened by the shooting death.

"This is very scary to know this is going on in my block," said neighbor Elizabeth Gutierrez.

Gutierrez doesn't know the victim and didn't hear anything, but she said she's worried.

"I have kids, it's scary to think this is going on in my neighborhood. I don't know what happened but this is not right," said Gutierrez.

Investigators said they're trying to determine if the victim knew his attacker. If you have any information about this case, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
